Participants attend a one-week coding camp on campus at Georgia Tech, where they are introduced to the basics of programming in GameMaker Language. Lectures are taught by Georgia Tech undergraduates and are interspersed with icebreakers, guest speakers, tours of campus, and other fun activities.
The participants are grouped into teams of five and, under the guidance of two undergraduate computer science students, design a computer game that centers around a STEM theme of their choice (medicine, space, etc.). These games will be created with the intention of getting other girls interested in computer science and STEM. Teams meet independently (either in-person or over video chat) over a period of five months.
Each team has the opportunity to present their video games to a panel of judges (composed of faculty and industry professionals) as well as the public. The winning team receives prizes and scholarship money, and all of the games are uploaded to our website so that girls from around the world can play them!
